Vaccination of adult patients
Health is the most valuable thing we have. To be confident in your protection and avoid serious complications, it is important to regularly receive preventive vaccinations. Below is useful information on why and when to get vaccinated, and which vaccines to choose.
Vaccination against diphtheria and tetanus
An adult should receive a vaccination against diphtheria and tetanus at least once every 10 years. Long-lasting immunity from childhood vaccinations does not develop for these infections in adulthood.
Therefore, at ages 26, 36, 46, 56, 66, 76, 86, and beyond… you should have a planned booster vaccination.
If the last one was at age 16, it is time to get vaccinated again.
We recommend the Boostrix or Boostrix Polio vaccine. They not only protect against diphtheria and tetanus but also provide protection against whooping cough. This is very important, as adults can frequently suffer from whooping cough, which has very unpleasant symptoms.
Vaccination against chickenpox
If you have never had chickenpox, consider getting vaccinated. This is particularly important because, in adulthood, this infection can have a more severe course and may lead to complications.
The vaccination with Varilrix or Varivax is done twice, with an interval of 4-6 weeks. This is a reliable way to maintain protection and be confident in your health.
Vaccination against Hepatitis B
If you were born before 2001 and have not yet been vaccinated against Hepatitis B (vaccination is now administered to children), be sure to get this vaccination. The infection is transmitted through blood, sometimes during routine procedures, such as manicure, tattoos, piercing, or sexual contact. Chronic Hepatitis B can lead to cirrhosis or liver cancer. The vaccine is Engerix B for adults or Twinrix (the latter also protects against Hepatitis A).
Vaccination against Hepatitis A with Havrix 1440 is performed twice, with an interval of at least 6 months.
Vaccination against HPV (human papillomavirus)
HPV is a very dangerous virus: it can cause cervical cancer in women, cancer of other genital organs and skin, and in men, it can lead to laryngeal and genital cancer.
The vaccines Cervarix, Gardasil, and Gardasil 9 can be given to any adults and adolescents from the age of 9 and older. This is particularly important for young people, as it helps protect against potentially fatal diseases in the future.
Vaccination against pneumococcus
The Prevnar 13 vaccine is recommended for adults, especially those over 50 years old and those who have chronic illnesses or have undergone certain treatments.
Pneumococcus causes pneumonia, otitis, sinusitis — and can be very dangerous in adulthood.
Rabies vaccination
If you are bitten or scratched by an animal that has not been vaccinated against rabies or about which there is no information, seek help immediately. Rabies is a fatal disease, and there is currently no treatment. For prevention, we use the Indirab vaccine.
Also, if you frequently come into contact with animals, live in a village, or have a constant risk of bites — we recommend getting preventive vaccination against rabies. This will help avoid serious and even fatal consequences.
Tetanus vaccination
If you have received a wound or skin injury that may become infected, for example, contaminated with dirt or debris, get a tetanus vaccination immediately. This is very important, as tetanus also has a 100% fatality rate if prevention is not carried out.
The vaccines ADP-M, Boostrix, or Boostrix Polio are the means that help reduce the risk of serious complications.
Vaccination before travel
Planning a trip to another country? Be sure to consult with your family doctor or an infectious disease specialist about the infections that are common in the destination country and which vaccinations you need for a safe trip.
Annual influenza vaccination
Every year, especially in September or October, we recommend getting vaccinated against influenza. This helps protect against severe complications in adults, especially in those over 50 years old and those with chronic diseases. The vaccination needs to be updated every year to maintain a high level of immunity.
