Lymphadenitis dissection

Lymphadenitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the lymph nodes, which often leads to pain and swelling. At "Dobrobut" Medical Center, specialists provide diagnosis, treatment, and expert care for patients suffering from lymphadenitis, offering timely and effective interventions, including the incision of lymphadenitis. Our goal is to provide relief from discomfort and prevent further complications.

When to See a Doctor

Immediate medical help is necessary if any of the following symptoms are observed, which may indicate lymphadenitis:

  • Persistent swelling and pain. The lymph nodes are enlarged, painful to the touch, and their condition does not change in response to pain relievers.
  • Redness and increased skin temperature in the affected area, which are signs of infection.
  • General symptoms such as fever, chills, or night sweats.
  • Fatigue or a general feeling of weakness, which may indicate that the body is fighting an infection.

Indications and Contraindications

Incision of lymphadenitis is indicated in the following cases:

  • Presence of an abscess, meaning a cavity filled with pus that causes severe pain.
  • Ineffectiveness of conservative treatment, where antibiotics and other methods do not reduce swelling or prevent the spread of infection.

Contraindications to the surgical procedure may include serious comorbid conditions such as severe diabetes and blood clotting disorders, which increase the risks of surgical interventions.

Diagnosis

To determine the need for an incision of lymphadenitis, our specialists perform a physical examination that involves carefully assessing the affected lymph node for size, tenderness, and signs of infection, conducting an ultrasound to determine the degree of inflammation and presence of abscesses. Blood tests are also ordered to identify signs of infection or systemic response in the body, such as leukocytosis—an increased number of white blood cells.

Preparation

Before the procedure, a detailed consultation is conducted where the surgeon and anesthesiologist explain the surgical technique, its potential risks and benefits, and provide pre-procedural instructions regarding food and fluid restrictions, medication adjustments, and other necessary preparatory actions.

How the Procedure is Performed

The incision of lymphadenitis is usually performed under local anesthesia. The duration of the procedure depends on the situation, but it generally takes between 15 to 45 minutes.

The procedure typically includes:

  1. A small incision for drainage of the abscess contents, which reduces pressure and promotes healing.
  2. Cleaning the affected area and closing it with a sterile dressing to prevent further infection.

Recovery

After the procedure, follow-up care and monitoring are conducted, and appropriate pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medications are prescribed. A follow-up visit is planned to evaluate recovery progress, check the condition of the incision, and address any questions from the patient’s family regarding home care for the wound.

Complications

The incision procedure for lymphadenitis is quite safe; potential complications may include infection, bleeding, and the formation of scars.

Prevention

Preventive measures to avoid lymphadenitis include:

  • Maintaining good hygiene: Regular handwashing and skin care to prevent infections.
  • Timely treatment of infections, such as sore throats or skin infections, to prevent their spread to lymph nodes.
  • Regular preventive check-ups and management of chronic infections.

You can schedule a consultation through the form on our website or by contacting our center via phone.
