Inpatient Treatment in the Intensive Care Unit for Children
The main goal of inpatient treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is to organize a sequence of therapeutic and diagnostic measures aimed at restoring, stabilizing, and supporting the essential vital functions of the body in pathological conditions that are potentially life-threatening.
Indications for hospitalization:
- Respiratory illnesses in children, accompanied by dyspnea involving accessory muscles, respiratory failure of grade 2 (bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, obstructive bronchitis), acute stenosing laryngotracheitis of grades 2-3;
- Respiratory illnesses in children under 6 months of age (bronchitis, obstructive bronchitis, acute viral laryngotracheobronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia) within the first 24-48 hours of illness;
- Acute illnesses included in the list of indications for hospitalization in a somatic department in children with complex premorbid backgrounds (congenital heart defects, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, etc.);
- Toxicosis with dehydration of grades 2-3, due to viral infections with gastrointestinal syndrome, acetonemic syndrome (CVA);
- Children under 3 months of age with vomiting, diarrhea, and toxic-dehydration of grades 1-2 within the first 24-48 hours of illness;
- Hyperpyrexia during fever, resistant to antipyretics, hyperthermia of various origins;
- Seizures and postictal states;
- Acute allergic diseases (generalized urticaria, angioedema);
- Vegetative dysfunction syndrome (hypertensive states, vagoinosolar crisis);
- Acute stress reaction;
- Acute poisoning (after consultation with a toxicologist);
- Conditions requiring rehabilitation after surgical interventions (upon recommendation of a pediatric surgeon from the Medical Network "Dobrobut");
- All patients requiring further examination under conditions of intensive monitoring.
Absolute contraindications for hospitalization in the ICU:
- Child’s age under 1 month (for premature infants – until reaching a gestational age of 42 weeks);
- Suspected acute intestinal infection or highly contagious infectious disease;
