Neurosonography
Neurosonography (NSG) is a non-invasive, painless, and safe method of ultrasound examination of the brain of newborns and young children (up to 1 year old) through natural openings in the skull, specifically the fontanelles: the anterior (large) fontanelle and the posterior (occipital) fontanelle.
In 95% of cases during neurosonography of newborns, it is possible to detect hidden brain injuries within the first weeks of the child's life, allowing doctors to provide urgent care without delay.
Indications for NSG:
- prematurity;
- clinical manifestations of CNS damage;
- traumatic brain injuries;
- inflammatory diseases of the brain;
- hypoxic-ischemic injuries;
- stigmata of dysmorphogenesis;
- hydrocephalus.
Identifies the following changes:
- hemorrhage;
- brain developmental defects;
- tumors and cysts;
- inflammatory processes;
- hydrocephalus.
No preparation is required for this examination. Anesthesia is not needed.
