Dentist orthodontist consultation
An orthodontist is involved in correcting bite issues. An incorrect or pathological bite can affect both appearance (for example, facial asymmetry) and dental health (improperly distributed chewing load can overload certain teeth, causing them to wear down faster and become more susceptible to infection).
Additionally, an improper bite can lead to issues with the temporomandibular joint, which may cause headaches, tinnitus, hearing loss, dizziness, pain when opening the mouth, and other symptoms.
Problems with the bite can vary in nature, but any of these pathologies requires correction.

Open Bite
An open bite is characterized by the absence of vertical overlap and contact between the upper and lower teeth. It is one of the most complex anomalies that are difficult to treat. Therefore, preventing the formation of an open bite is particularly important, which includes eliminating harmful habits such as thumb sucking, pacifiers, timely diagnosis, and correction of the size and position of the tongue. Another significant factor that affects the development of an open bite is mouth breathing due to obstruction of the upper airways. This is accompanied by a low position of the tongue and inadequate development of the upper jaw.
Treatment of an open bite depends on the age of the patient and the causes of the pathology's formation. In cases related to trauma affecting the joint processes, surgical intervention is necessary. Treatment of an open bite may include tooth extraction, use of multi-loop arches, and orthognathic surgery.
Deep Bite
A deep bite is a type of bite in which the upper incisors overlap the lower ones by more than half the height of the crown. This situation can lead to wear on the incisors, trauma to the mucous membrane of the palate, and aesthetic problems. Currently, there are various methods for correcting a deep bite. The choice of strategy is based on an analysis of the aesthetics of the face, the length of the upper lip, and the height of the incisor crowns.
Mesial Bite
A mesial bite is a facial deformation characterized by the forward position of the lower jaw relative to the upper one. Depending on the growth type and stage of the bite, a treatment plan is developed, which can include various stages: from observation to orthognathic surgery.
Crossbite
A crossbite is a bite pathology with a mismatch in the sizes and shapes of the dental arches of the upper and lower jaws and their relationship. It is often accompanied by facial asymmetry and changes in the area of the temporomandibular joint, requiring early correction to eliminate the blockage of growth and development of the dental-jaw apparatus.
Distal Bite
A distal bite is the most common among the European race. It often forms as a result of prolonged mouth breathing and narrowing of the upper jaw. A distinctive feature is the backward position of the lower jaw or the forward position of the upper jaw, or a combination of both situations. Patients with a distal bite often complain of crowding teeth and unsatisfactory facial aesthetics.
In addition to bite anomalies, orthodontists also treat defects in the dental arches (chewing function disorders, tooth displacement, gradual atrophy or deformation of the jaw bones, noticeable cosmetic defects). Tooth defects are a cause of speech disturbances and loss of healthy teeth.
Orthodontists at the "Dobrobut" medical network use modern methods for bite correction in their work: bracket systems, aligners, and removable/non-removable appliances. The choice of method depends on the task that needs to be solved, the age of the patient, as well as other individual characteristics.
