Oncologist consultation
Oncological diseases are one of the leading causes of death. They rank third after cardiovascular diseases and deaths due to injuries.
Cancer is a general term for a group of diseases. It can affect any organ, any part of the body.
Cancer is an international disease, affecting people in all corners of the globe. The only difference is the types and forms of cancer. In the fight against oncological diseases, three main methods are used: medical, radiation, and surgical. Accordingly, there are three main specialties of doctors who work together with the patient to combat the illness.
- Clinical or medical oncologist. This is a physician who possesses all modern diagnostic and treatment methods for cancer of primary localizations (lung, skin, breast, stomach and intestines, uterus, prostate, kidneys). Treatment by such a specialist occurs in two stages. The first is consultative, the second is therapeutic. The clinical oncologist fights cancer using: chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy.
- Oncosurgeon or surgical oncologist. This is a doctor who specializes in the surgical treatment of oncological diseases. The oncosurgeon uses invasive diagnostic methods such as punctures and trepanobiopsy. Surgical oncologists have a narrow specialization. For example, breast cancer surgery is handled by a breast oncologist, tumors of the abdominal cavity and retroperitoneal space are managed by an abdominal oncologist, tumors of the chest and mediastinum are treated by a thoracic oncologist, and kidney, bladder, and prostate cancer are managed by an oncologist-urologist. Oncosurgeons collaborate with specialists from other surgical fields. If necessary, these may include plastic surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons.
- Radiation oncologist or radiologist. This is a doctor who treats cancer through irradiation (radiation methods). Radiologists collaborate with specialists from non-medical fields: physicists, mathematicians, engineers, IT specialists.
In the Dobrobut medical network, you will receive a consultation from a doctor in any field of oncology, both general and narrow specialization.
