Parents have a lot of questions: how to take care of a newborn, can a baby have a sore throat, how is his bad health expressed?
Can a baby have a sore throat?
Inflammatory processes in human respiratory organs are usually illustrated by hyperemia (redness), pain, irritation of the mucous membrane. In babies, these processes are difficult to immediately determine, because an infant cannot tell about his ailments.
How to understand that a baby has a sore throat?
Attentive parents should be alerted by changes in the child's behavior. When the throat hurts, the baby has indirect signs of this symptom:
- causeless tearfulness, which increases when swallowing;
- increased salivation (hypersalivation);
- rejection of food;
- restless, short-lived sleep;
- morbidity and enlargement of submandibular lymph nodes.
How to determine that a baby has a sore throat? It is necessary to conduct an examination of the mucous membrane of the larynx. For this, you will need a sufficient amount of light and a spatula (a spoon with a flat handle will do). Normally, the mucous membrane of the oropharynx should be a uniform pale pink color without any changes: pimples, white plaque, red veins. A factor that confirms the presence of an inflammatory process is a red throat:
- increase in size and redness of the tonsils (possible plaque);
- swelling;
- redness of the visible parts of the pharynx - palatal brackets, part of the back wall of the larynx, soft palate.
If a baby's red throat is combined with a high temperature, then this is a good reason to seek urgent help from a doctor.
Treatment of red throat in infants
Every parent should know that a sore throat in a child is not a diagnosis. It is a symptom of many different diseases. When you find a red throat in a baby, the pediatrician should prescribe treatment according to the possible reason that provoked the inflammation:
- viral infection;
- tonsillitis;
- a cold;
- presence of an allergen;
- an accompanying sign of teething.
Depending on the diagnosis, the doctor will select the most suitable therapy tactics, using at the same time medicinal preparations preferred for infants. Self-medication is unacceptable. It is dangerous for a small child due to the development of serious complications
