Yulia Shuklina, otolaryngologist, head of otolaryngology and maxillofacial surgery at Dobrobut, head of the head and neck medicine department at Dobrobut Academy, was a speaker at the seventh Congress of the European Confederation of Otorhinolaryngology in Dublin. This is the world's largest event in the field of otorhinolaryngology, which this year brought together more than 4.5 thousand doctors from 150 countries.
After listening to many presentations, Yulia brought back a very interesting insight from the event. Surgery in otolaryngology will be relegated to the background as the era of genetic engineering begins. Studies show that thanks to the latest medicines, tumors in the human body can resolve themselves and then restore normal connections between cells.
Our doctor participated in a section dedicated to trauma. Yulia shared with her foreign colleagues several cases of surgeries performed after a combat injury. For example, about the case when our surgeons removed fragments from the head and neck that were stuck very close to the critical structures for human life - arteries, nerves, eyes. In addition, these fragments are often mobile, which also complicates the operation. But Dobrobut surgeons do incredible things!
Yulia also made a presentation on acoustic trauma, which damages hearing. During the war, the number of people who developed hearing problems due to combat injuries increased exponentially. Unfortunately, patients do not always have the opportunity to solve this problem immediately, as no one pays attention to it during first aid. For example, the military who were in captivity could not get the necessary help and lost time, which greatly complicates the course of the injury. Our doctor presented new protocols and treatment regimens for acoustic trauma, which include a combination of medication and psychological programs.
"Before the war, I didn't really deal with hearing issues, because I had enough other diseases. But life forced me to deepen my study of this topic. At the congress, we actively talked about it with many doctors and scientists. Our new treatment methods aroused interest among the foreign audience. I was also pleasantly surprised that many people were interested in the training program for our interns. Therefore, we plan to cooperate in this area and discuss the possibilities of joint training", Yulia Shuklina shares her impressions.
