Causes, symptoms and treatment of cervical inversion
Displacement of the uterus with its mucous membrane turned outward is a postpartum inversion of the uterus. Most often, the pathology occurs against the background of improper management of childbirth and the postpartum period. The condition is characterized by an acute course and requires immediate treatment, as it is dangerous for a woman's health and life.
Causes of uterine inversion
The most often diagnosed acute inversion of the uterus, which occurs immediately after childbirth. Sometimes there is also a chronic form of pathology that occurs in the postpartum period, that is, within a few days after the birth of a child. The problem may occur in the background:
- absence of uterine muscle tension after childbirth (atony), which is accompanied by an increase in intra-abdominal pressure (sneezing, coughing);
- aggressive pressure on the uterus in order to separate the placenta;
- tension of the umbilical cord (forced extraction) with a non-separated placenta.
In medicine, there are two causes of uterine inversion, which occurs involuntarily:
- the presence of a large myomatous node at the bottom of the uterus;
- location of the placenta at the bottom of the uterus (the uppermost and widest part).
Symptoms and treatment of cervical inversion after childbirth
Inversion of the cervix after childbirth is manifested by the following symptoms:
- bright red with clots of discharge from the genital tract;
- the woman's skin becomes pale, covered with cold sweat;
- the patient complains of sudden sharp pain in the lower abdomen (possible loss of consciousness against the background of painful shock);
- blood pressure indicators become extremely low;
- when examining, a mucous formation with a red surface is found in the vagina.
Treatment of cervical inversion after childbirth consists in manual repositioning of the organ - it returns to the place of its anatomical location. If necessary, the doctor frees the uterus from the placenta (he also separates it manually). In parallel, therapeutic appointments are made:
- preparations from the group of cholinomimetics - actively affect the cervix, preventing its spasms;
- antiseptic agents - used to wash the uterine cavity, prevent the development of bacterial infection;
- preparations for increasing and stabilizing blood pressure.
Surgical intervention is used only if it is not possible to move the uterus manually. For this, an incision is made along the back wall of the vagina and uterus, the hollow organ is inserted, and the resulting defect is sutured. If more than 24 hours have passed since the development of the pathology, the doctors will perform an operation to remove the uterus.
Is it possible to get pregnant with an inversion of the cervix? There is no definite answer to this question, since everything depends on how quickly the condition was diagnosed and how quickly everything was restored. Complications can be endometritis, peritonitis, and sepsis - serious conditions in which it is not about preserving a woman's reproductive function, but about saving her life. Most often, inversion of the cervix becomes the cause of infertility. Even if a woman becomes pregnant, she will have to stay in a hospital for the entire gestation period to avoid miscarriage and premature birth.
