Punch biopsy
Different types of biopsies are used for skin examinations, but the most common is punch biopsy. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that tissue sampling is carried out using a special hollow scalpel, which is immersed inside the neoplasm and makes a column-shaped cut containing different layers of skin. This type of tissue sampling is considered the most correct, as it makes it possible to study the condition of the epidermis, dermis and upper parts of subcutaneous fat.
The advantages of punch biopsy are that it is a fairly quick and effective method of diagnosing skin tumors, which does not require preparation and allows you to diagnose without injuring healthy tissues.
Contraindications
There are no contraindications for biopsy.
However, precautions should be taken if
- the patient is allergic to local anesthetics;
- there are signs of active infection at the biopsy site;
- the patient is prone to bleeding during injuries or is taking anticoagulants that affect bleeding control.
