PATCH Tests
One of the most common skin problems is contact dermatitis, which occurs as a result of an allergic reaction to various substances. Reactions are often accompanied by itching, flaking, and redness. Sometimes the affected areas are extensive, and the unpleasant manifestations of the allergic reaction can be unbearable, suffering not only the well-being of the patient but also the overall quality of life.
The primary task of a dermatologist in treating contact dermatitis is to identify the trigger that provokes the allergic reaction. The medical network "Dobrobut" conducts PATCH testing - a modern method that allows confirming the diagnosis of "dermatitis," identifying its cause, and taking measures to exclude the allergen from the patient’s life (for example, helping to select safe cosmetic or medicinal products).
Indications for Conducting:
- conditions that may result from contact allergic reactions of delayed hypersensitivity type IV, such as contact dermatitis, polymorphic erythema, nummular eczema, lichen planus (Wilson's disease), psoriasis (especially localized on the hands), granulomatous or lymphoid reactions;
- worsening of the course of atopic, seborrheic, or hemorrhagic dermatitis, nummular eczema – suspicion of concomitant allergic contact dermatitis;
- medication-induced dermatoses;
- reactions of the mucous membranes: conjunctivitis, stomatitis, vulvitis;
- before implant placement and prosthetics in dentistry and orthopedics in the presence of heightened potential allergic reactions to metals and other materials.
By identifying the allergen that causes the skin reaction, the patient can eliminate and avoid products containing it, which will help accelerate recovery and restore a full, healthy life without complications.

How Diagnosis is Conducted
PATCH tests are patches that have substances applied to them which can cause allergic reactions upon contact with the skin. Diagnosis using PATCH tests occurs in several stages.
- The patches are applied to the patient's back for a duration of 24 or 48 hours.
- After the patches are removed, within 30 minutes the doctor examines the patient and conducts an initial assessment of the results.
- Additional evaluations are conducted at 72, 96, and 120 hours after the application of the PATCH system to further assess the results.
In cases where a substance that causes a skin allergic reaction was applied to the patch, a local reaction of varying intensity occurs at the contact site: redness, dryness, and so on. Additional examinations over 72, 96, and 120 hours allow for the detection of the so-called delayed allergic reaction, which does not always manifest immediately after contact with allergens.
