Metal-free ceramics

Thanks to the development of modern dentistry today, you can easily correct even serious tooth defects, restore them and return a beautiful smile. For those who want to achieve perfect aesthetics in combination with high-strength crowns, prostheses made of metal-free ceramics are recommended. The name of these crowns speaks for itself because they are made without the use of metal components and are created from special dental ceramics of one or more types. Metal-free crowns are completely identical in their properties to real human teeth, including light transmission, degree of abrasion, coefficient of thermal expansion, and thermal conductivity. Such dentures differ in the dentition, are felt in the mouth, and behave "in use" in much the same way as natural teeth.

The advantages of crowns made of metal-free ceramics are:

  • the beautiful aesthetic appearance of the tooth;
  • high strength;
  • good biocompatibility;
  • hypoallergenicity;
  • lightweight, which reduces the load on the abutment teeth;
  • no need for strong turning of the tooth;
  • resistance to dyes;
  • long service life;
  • low thermal conductivity, which protects tooth tissue from temperature changes.

The only disadvantage of crowns made of metal-free ceramics may be the need to use sophisticated high-tech computer equipment in the manufacture and as a result - the high price. However, this shortcoming is offset by operational, technical, and highly aesthetic indicators.

What materials are used in the manufacture of metal-free crowns?

Crowns are made of different materials: porcelain, glass ceramics, alumina, zirconium oxide. Dentures that have high strength, as well as aesthetics, are used for the restoration of anterior and masticatory teeth, as well as for installation on implants.

  1. Porcelain (all-ceramic) crowns are created from a special mixture based on real porcelain, which is inert - that is, does not irritate soft tissues. In terms of optical properties, ceramics are as close as possible to the shade of enamel, which makes artificial crowns invisible against the background of healthy teeth.
  2. Crowns based on lithium disilicate (glass-ceramics) are made of extruded ceramics with a high level of leucite crystals, which provide their excellent strength.
  3. Zirconium prostheses. There are all-zirconium - consisting only of zirconium, and two-layer crowns - the framework of which is made based on zirconium dioxide, and the outer coating of porcelain enamel. The material has many advantages and thanks to them is in demand among a large number of patients. Zirconium dioxide allows you to create strong and harmless structures with a wide range of purposes - crowns, abutments, prosthesis frame, etc.
  4. Alumina-based dentures are an alternative to non-removable zirconia dentures. Metal-free ceramics based on alumina is a white, translucent material. In addition, dentures can be made in the color of other teeth, which makes them as similar as possible to natural teeth. When creating dental crowns from alumina, a computer-controlled milling technique is used, which ensures high accuracy.

A specialist will help you choose the material for the crown, based on your requests, the clinical picture, the cost of the prosthesis, and other factors. The price of a metal-free crown will largely depend on the chosen material. The most expensive varieties of zirconium. The high cost is due to their reliability and durability.

Stages of installation

Installation of crowns is in the following sequence:

  • The preparatory stage includes an examination of the oral cavity and removal of problems that prevent prosthetics - treatment of carious processes, inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity.
  • Tooth preparation - it's turning under the future design;
  • Imprinting with a special mixture to determine the optimal size of the structure, selection of the desired color of the crown.
  • Installation of a temporary structure to solve aesthetic and functional problems.
  • Crown fabrication - with the help of three-dimensional modeling the model is determined and made on high-precision equipment.
  • Installation of a product - is carried out after fitting, by means of special cement material. Then the specialist polishes and grinds the finished crown.

The total duration of installation of metal-free crowns varies from 2 to 3 weeks. With proper oral care and dentist recommendations, crowns will last you for years to come.
