On November 26, 2016, a national scientific and practical multidisciplinary web conference “Treatment and prevention of venous thrombosis and embolism: a multidisciplinary approach to the implementation of modern recommendations for the use of new anticoagulants in real clinical practice” was held in Kyiv.
This conference was the first experience of holding specialized events with the participation of several regions of Ukraine in an online mode. The use of modern technologies, such as online broadcasting, interactive testing and voting, as well as active participation in the discussion and live communication of all those present, allowed this format to be extremely interesting and unite professionals from different regions of the country.
Various specialists from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odessa, Dnipro, Lviv and other cities and regions of our country took part in the conference. The event was prepared for specialists from various medical fields and was fully consistent with modern world views on such dangerous and severe pathologies as acute venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), according to which this problem is complex and multidisciplinary.
The conference was attended by cardiologists, vascular surgeons, gynecologists, therapists, surgeons and orthopedists. For specialists in these fields of medicine, the problem of thrombotic complications is incredibly relevant, many works of professionals around the world are devoted to the development of standardization of diagnostic and treatment methods, since thrombotic complications are the main cause of mortality worldwide.
The lecturers and presenters were specialists from Kyiv, known throughout the country for their high professionalism, and from the regions - authoritative leaders of specialized areas and specialties.
The first report “Modern international recommendations in the diagnosis and treatment of thromboembolic conditions” was presented by Dr. of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Resuscitation and Intensive Care of the State Scientific Research Center “Institute of Cardiology named after N.D. Strazhesko”, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Member of the Board of the European Society of Cardiology, President of the Association of Emergency Cardiology Parkhomenko A.N.. The professor’s report presented modern European standards and the latest recommendations of 2016 quite clearly, concisely and professionally, paying special attention to key points and controversial points. Oleksandr Mykolayovych gave comprehensive answers to the many questions asked from the audience after the report, clarifying many practical details and thereby preparing the audience for the second report.
The second report was devoted to the topic “Practical issues of VT treatment. Consideration of a clinical case”. It was presented by a senior researcher of the Department of Resuscitation and Intensive Care of the NSC "Institute of Cardiology named after N.D. Strazhesko", Candidate of Medical Sciences Lutai Ya.M.. In the report that was presented, special attention was paid to the practical aspects of diagnostics and treatment of a dangerous and often fatal thrombotic complication - pulmonary embolism. It was said about the possibilities, prospects for the implementation and active use of modern knowledge in the conditions of Ukrainian reality.
The third report was extremely rich, informative, emotional and, as always, as close as possible to practical activity - “The significance of real practice data in changing the standards of VT therapy”. It was presented by the country's chief phlebologist, leading researcher of the Department of Vascular Surgery of the A.A. Shalimov National University of Surgery and Transplantology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor L.M. Chornukha. She drew the attention of the audience to the problems of diagnosis and treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which have become too frequent in many branches of medicine. Special attention was paid to the practical aspects, features and forms of this pathology, and also voiced, perhaps, the most realistic thesis about the need for adequate comparison in practical activity of modern recommendations and clinical situations. Larisa Mykhailivna also presented her professional considerations, based on extensive experience and clinical observations, on how approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of thromboembolic complications in clinical practice have radically changed due to the emergence of new medications, progress in diagnostic technologies, and modern global research into the nature of these conditions.
The flurry of questions that followed from the audience and from representatives of other regions following the report by L.M. Chornukha testified to the genuine interest of the medical community in the presented problem, its high clinical significance, and the need to bring modern European standards closer to the practical activities of many medical specialties in our country. It should be emphasized that the lecturers professionally and openly answered all questions of interest, allowing all those present to actively participate in the discussion.
We hope that the experience of such small, but quite important and significant in medical practice specialized conferences will only expand, which will allow doctors of various specialties to adequately and at a modern level provide assistance to patients with serious and dangerous diseases. As for the MC "Dobrobut", our specialists once again received confirmation of the relevance of their professional knowledge and proved their ability to actively use modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of dangerous complications, providing medical care at a high European level.
Our specialists-phlebologists Gerasimov V.V. and Gerasimov E.V. also participated in the conference.
