Open reduction, lower jaw osteosynthesis
Osteosynthesis of the lower jaw is an operation that is performed in the treatment of displaced fractures. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons use open access through incisions in the cheek or inside the mouth to place the bones in the correct position and fix them with special devices.
All types of reduction and osteosynthesis are performed by experienced maxillofacial surgeons of the Dobrobut clinic. We employ the best doctors in Kyiv, who successfully cope with even the most difficult cases.
Types of osteosynthesis
Operations are subdivided into direct and indirect. In the first case, the fixation of the bones is carried out directly at the site of the fracture, and in the second, the attachment elements are located at a distance from the site of injury. Each of these options has 2 subspecies: intraosseous and extraosseous. The difference between the two lies in the way the anchors are attached to the bone.
Structures have different costs, taking into account their type, quantity, and material of manufacture.
Please note that the website indicates the price of lower jaw osteosynthesis excluding fixators since the operation technique is selected individually for each patient.
Indications for surgery
Surgical treatment is necessary for fractures of the lower jaw, which are accompanied by the following complications:
- damage to the angle or articular process of the lower jaw;
- displacement of fragments with infringement of soft tissues between them;
- comminuted fractures;
- pathological mobility of teeth (with periodontal disease);
- combined injuries of the lower and upper jaw.
Contraindications
Osteosynthesis is not performed in such situations:
- severe osteoporosis;
- extensive crushing of soft tissues;
- suppuration of tissues around the fracture;
- blood clotting disorders;
- acute infectious diseases;
- decompensated state of the patient.
In some cases, the operation is postponed until the above complications are eliminated. If this is not possible, doctors choose a different treatment strategy.
