Blood Drive in Kyiv for Military Personnel and Children

On November 11 and 13, open blood donation events will take place at Dobrobut multidisciplinary hospitals in Kyiv. On these days, anyone willing to donate blood can help meet the needs of medical facilities across Ukraine that treat military personnel and children.

The blood drive is organized by the Dobrobut medical network in partnership with Blood Agents, the Armed Forces of Ukraine Blood Center, and the Blood Service Center at Okhmatdyt Hospital. Ukrainian brands have joined the initiative to support donors and thank them for their contribution: functional snack bar manufacturer FIZI, coffee company Mad Heads, and artisan bakery Bakehouse.

This is the fifth joint initiative by Dobrobut and Blood Agents. This year, 216 donors took part in the medical network’s open donation events and gave more than 97 liters of blood. These supplies could potentially meet the needs of almost 650 patients.

Anyone over the age of 18 can become a donor, provided they have no contraindications to blood donation and weigh at least 50 kg.

Where and when to donate blood

Blood donations will take place at Dobrobut multidisciplinary hospitals from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.:

According to the WHO recommendation, 33 people per 1,000 population should donate blood. Ukraine has always faced a shortage of donated blood, and before the war, this figure ranged from 11 to 13 donors per 1,000 people.

Russia’s full-scale invasion has significantly increased the need for donated blood. Today, it is critically important both for saving wounded military personnel at the front and in hospitals, and for patients in medical facilities who continue to fight serious illnesses.

Children’s medical facilities are particularly in need of blood. According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the National Cancer Registry, around 1,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed in children and adolescents in Ukraine every year. A single course of treatment may require up to 50 blood transfusions.

Only a stable base of regular voluntary donors can meet these extensive needs.

“Every drop of donated blood is not just a symbol of hope, but a real chance to save a life. That is why Dobrobut organizes Donor Days every year for its employees and everyone who wants to contribute to a good cause. This is part of our corporate social responsibility: supporting voluntary blood donation in Ukraine and raising awareness of its importance,” says Oleksandra Mashkevych, Chief Medical Director of the Dobrobut medical network.
“There is always a need for donated blood, but the war has made it even more urgent. In recent months, the situation with blood donations has become more difficult, reminding us how important it is not to put off helping others. Blood is the most valuable resource each of us can share. You do not have to be a hero in the traditional sense of the word — becoming a blood donor is enough,” says Anastasiia Hamaiunova, Corporate Donation Coordinator at the Blood Agents NGO.
