Genioplasty (without the cost of fixatives)

Genioplasty is a plastic operation aimed at eliminating congenital or acquired defects of the chin and creating harmonious proportions between the chin and other parts of the facial skeleton.

What are the indications for genioplasty?

  • violation of the proportions of the chin and other parts of the facial skeleton;
  • in the presence of congenital defects;
  • the presence of a history of injuries that led to deformity of the chin;
  • change in the shape of the chin as a result of disorders of the musculoskeletal system;
  • when the patient is dissatisfied with his appearance.

The shape of the chin greatly affects the overall perception of the face and neck.

When is genioplasty contraindicated?

  • the patient has not reached 18 years, because the bones of the facial skeleton have not yet formed;
  • diseases of the skeletal system at the stage of exacerbation;
  • endocrine diseases - diabetes, hypothyroidism, etc .;
  • oncological diseases, period of chemotherapy;
  • diseases of the hematopoietic system;
  • diseases of the cardiovascular system;
  • endocrine diseases;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • severe pathologies of the cardiovascular system;

What results of genioplasty should be expected?

  • balancing and harmonious face;
  • lack of pronounced asymmetry;
  • removal of a double chin;
  • more V-shaped chin with a sharper angle;
  • clearer facial features;

How is preoperative preparation carried out?

In consultation with a doctor, possible contraindications, the presence of diseases that prevent genioplasty are identified. Genioplasty requires a preliminary comprehensive examination. The analysis of the received information allows the specialists of our Clinic to choose the most effective method of solving the patient's problem and to develop a personal correction scheme.

In everything else, preparation for surgery is standard, the following examinations will be required:

  • laboratory tests - coagulogram, biochemical analysis of blood, general analysis of blood and urine;
  • radiography of the thoracic cavity (fluorography);
  • electrocardiography.

How is genioplasty performed?

The technology of performing chin plastics (genioplasty) depends on whether it is magnifying or diminishing. However, for enlarged and decreased genioplasty, the same approaches are used: an external incision is made (in the skin fold under the chin) or an internal one is made in the fold of the lower lip mucosa.

Chin reduction

Duration - up to 2.5 hours. General anesthesia is used. An incision is made at the top of the lip to access the internal structures. Then the bone fragment is either removed or shifted back. These techniques can be combined: the bone fragment is removed, undergoes a procedure of grinding and modeling, and then fixed to the lower jaw. After the intervention, sutures and a compression bandage are applied.

Chin augmentation

Duration - up to 1.5 hours, general anesthesia or local anesthesia is possible. Incisions are made in the fold of the chin or the mouth. Soft tissues are exfoliated, and an artificial implant is installed - silicone, size, and shape are selected in advance, for each patient individually or bone and cartilage (created from the patient's own cartilage and modeled during surgery).
Another option is to dissect the bone, move its fragment forward with subsequent fixation with screws and a titanium plate.

Contour genioplasty

Liposuction removes excess adipose tissue, then tightens the aponeurosis of the neck muscles. If there are defects in the form of depressions in this area, they are filled either with the patient's own adipose tissue (lipofilling), or fillers with hyaluronic acid. Contour mentoplasty allows you to eliminate a small asymmetry and adjust the shape of the chin.

How is the recovery and rehabilitation period after genioplasty?

After surgery under local anesthesia, it is important to be under medical supervision for 2 hours. If you feel well, you can go home. If anesthesia was performed, it is shown to be in the hospital for at least 24 hours - at this time the patient is observed by a doctor and medical staff.

Several recommendations should be followed during the early recovery period:

  • 3-4 days after surgery, rinse your mouth with antiseptic;
  • in the first days to exclude physical activity;
  • 2 weeks to eat only in liquid/puree form;
  • when installing the implant for 2-4 weeks to limit the movement of the jaws;
  • do not overheat the operated area (do not visit the bathhouse, sauna, do not sunbathe in the solarium or the sun);
  • do not visit the pool;
  • wear a compression bandage as directed by a doctor;
  • in the first week to treat seam areas with antiseptic;
  • follow a diet so as not to form a local layer of fat.

Addiction to the implant, if it has been installed, usually occurs 4 weeks after the procedure.

In the first days after genioplasty, numbness of the lower lip and skin in the chin area may occur. This is a temporary phenomenon. It is not caused by damage, but by compression of nerves due to tissue edema. After reducing the swelling, the sensitivity of the skin and mucous membranes is completely restored.

The result of the operation is visible immediately. The duration of recovery after genioplasty depends on the type of operation, the amount of surgery, the patient's age, and health status. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to fully recover.
